Listening for the trumpet or longing for the mission?

“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns." Matthew 24:45-46 NIV

It is apparent from this and other words of the Master that the return of Christ for His Bride will not be a "rescue mission" although the way many in the church historically have acted one might draw that very conclusion. The words of an old Hymn reflect, "We'll work til Jesus comes and then be gathered home." The Master is returning someday but not to rescue a beaten, battered, beleagured Church in exile, but rather returning with the anticipation of finding Servants who are so engaged in the work He left for us to complete that we are not even mindful that He is at the door. Yes, we should anticipate His coming as He reflected frequently and in this same context: "“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. . . .So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. (42&44). But this "watching" is inclusive of the command to be vigilant and on task so that WHEN He comes He will find an obedient, hard working church seeking to fulfill the Mission. So let's quit being so preoccupied with listening for the Trump of God and the Voice of the Archangel and put our nose to the grindstone and shoulder to the wheel. There is SO much more to be done. He may come tomorrow or even today, but I for one don't want to be found idle when He does.
